‘The Many Faces Shield’

The many faces shield was used in many episodes of the Xena Hercules series. This shield was used for set decoration or to hang on the walls of the set as it does not have a holding bar. It looks to be made of metal but is actually plastic that has been chromed and dipped or colored to have the brassy or gold appearance. The shield gets its name because of the faces that are all the way around the outside ring of the shield. It is a fairly nice size shield and measures about 24” across

‘Wall Shield’

This shield was used for background scenes or wall decoration. It is made of a hard rubbery type plastic, it lacks handles on the underside and measures about 26” across. It has does a light design on it to give it a textured appearance under the lighting when shooting on the sets.

‘The Amazon Shield’

This turtle shell shape shield is the type used in season 6 episode ‘To Helicon and Back’, by the amazons. It is made of hard resin and has two thick leather handles on the underside for holding on to. They made these turtles shields in two different sizes, with this one measuring approximately 18”x14”.

‘The Griffon Shield’

When I purchased the Griffon Shield I was told it was one of three that were connected together in a triangular design that was used on the front of a castle/temple.  I haven’t found it as triple hanging, but  I did find in Hercules The Legendary Journeys episode ‘For Those Of You Just Joining Us’,  Season 5 being used as a single wall hanging. It is made out of closed cell foam on plywood and then painted to look like metal and measures 24” across.

‘The Roman Shield’

This style of roman shield was used throughout the Xena/Hercules series. The screen capture is from season 6, episode ‘Path of Vengeance’. It is made of light plastic for easy lifting/moving, it is for set design or wall hangings because it lacks the bar handle or reinforcements in the back. It measures approximately 38”x 28”
